Agathan movie tells the story of retired Major General Hareendra Natha Varma (Sathyaraj) and Gautham Menon (Dileep) who is a software engineer. His father was Mukundan Menon, a bank employee working in Srinagar. His mother was Sujatha and sister Amritha. He lost his members of the family in a terrorist attack. During that period Major Hareendranatha Varma was on duty in Srinagar.
After the incident Gautham decided to leave Srinagar. On his way to Bangalore he met a girl named Shreya (Charmi). After the journey incidentally he met Shreya several times at Bangalore. She was an MBA student. She had an inclination to Gautham. But he was least interested in loving her.
One day Shreya took him to her house. Her father Major Hareendranatha Varma, mother (Zarina Wahab) and grand mother (Valsala Menon) liked Gautham. They wished Gautham to be Shreya’s husband. One day Gautham revealed a secret to Major and story turns.

The story line is indeed new. But I think the director, story writer as well as producer grossly over glorified the story.
The major factor that contributed for a negative review for this film is the casting for characters in this film. I believe the talents of actors such as Satyaraj, Sereena Wahab, Lal has been wasted. In fact their current roles seemed like trying to fill 10 litres of wine in one litre bottle. I even wonder how they could they agree to do these kind of minor roles.
Another negative attribute was Dileep himself. He is indeed trying to remove his image as \"slapstick comedian\". And the role as Gautham Menon could have helped him from such an image after his role in \"Don\". The character of Gautham Menon is supposed to be semi-serious person who keeps his coolness even under tense situation. A man who has nothing to loose. But you can see that this idea flawed in many parts of the movie. For example when he invites Shreya to watch moon at night in front of Varma, when he talks with Varma in front of reporter and when he faces pointed gun by Varma. In all these situation he acts as mimicry artist Dileep rather than the character himself. This shows that Dileep could have done the role better. Or I would dare to say some other character who had the reputation of presenting serious roles would have made the role much famous.
The picturisation of the movie is excellent as well as songs. But the overall flow of the movie is not good. In many parts we feel something is missing. In some other parts you could even predict what is going to happen. In some other seens the moviemakers try to create serious misunderstanding so that they can present twists in the story (for example how the sister of Gautham Menon killed). This become failure as an average moviegoer could understand the theme story from the trailers.
The unnecessary comedy\'s (like Major George\'s saying of statement made by Christ etc.) was also a contributed the negative for the movie.
In short I want to say, I expected more from such a famous director like Kamal and such star cast.
I am not a movie critic. If I am, then, I will give 4/10 for this movie.
In short this movie is worth watching when the official CD is released for Rs.60 or when it comes at channels for any festive season.
